Media effects?

There is no doubt that our country is culturally divided oftentimes beyond recognition. To compare Boulder or San Francisco to the country towns of Eastern N.Carolina or Colorado Springs you might not believe you're living in the same country (or the same time for that matter). And there is no doubt that those respective places will be unaltered by any media barrage of the opposite view over an election season.
But I do think there is a somewhat sizeable group that lies somewhere in the middle, caught between the two extremes. They like the nostalgia, tradition, and protection that comes from the religious nationalism but yet are intrigued by the inclusive, ambitious maze that the liberal side represent. I've met people like this while canvassing. And while many don't pay attention to news other than flipping through channels or reading a headline here and there, if the media focuses on some of the blatant contradictions in the campaigns, some are bound to be swayed. Even if they are swayed just from the conduct of the campaign and don't ascribe the worldview then I think it's still a win.
It won't be alot, not landslide. But a trickle of soil.
