From the few snippets I've seen so far of Sarah Palin's interview with Charlie Gibson, it is almost refreshing that she is talking so forthrightly about foreign policy issues. Yes, she says, if Georgia joins NATO like they should, that would mean that we might have to go to war with Russia. (Gulp!) Yes, if Israel attacks Iran, she is our ally and we'll have to go along with whatever she does.
Now, that has been the trajectory of Establishment foreign policy (yes, both Clinton and Bush) for a long time, but hardly ever so bluntly stated. But her handlers have not yet refined Palin enough to be able to dodge the question or fudge the answer. But believe me, that won't last long. Pretty soon she'll be finessing (i.e. obfruscating) everything with the best of them.
By the way, here's a good article on Russia and Georgia that avoids the b.s. you mostly get from the foreign policy establishment and both political parties. (Again, Palin told it straight when she said some time ago that Georgia is our friend because an oil pipeline runs straight through the country.)
Ps. It's not democracy we're after in Georgia and Iraq. It's oil.
